A Mother's Love

Updated: Feb 1, 2024

There is no stronger feeling than the love between a mother and her child.

When I found out I was pregnant so many people told me what it would feel like, but until you experience it for yourself, you can't even imagine the strength behind that unconditional love.

Still to this day, but especially when I was freshly postpartum, that love truly got the best of me and even brought me to happy tears. Two of the times that I really felt the strength of that love, was reading the words of someone else, and the feelings those words brought to life.

Since experiencing this, I have had the joy of sharing two of my favorite examples of this love with other moms, all of whom had the same reaction as me and felt the strength of these authors words. So, I wanted to spread the feeling, and share my favorite book and poem with all the moms who love their children unconditionally, especially those new moms out there feeling that love for the first time.

My Favorite Poem

All I See Is You by Jessica Urlichs

I remember the day I read this poem for the first time. I was a day away from my baby turning one month old, he hadn't slept much at all, I was exhausted, and my incision was still sore. I was giving him everything I had and I just felt like it wasn't enough.

But as I was sitting, nursing him, my sister in law sent me a text with a poem that someone had sent to her after she had given birth to her baby.

I opened it, and didn't even make it halfway through before I started to cry. This poem reaches every parent who ever questioned if they were good enough for their baby and emanates the love between a parent and their child. There could not have been a more perfect time for this poem to come into my life, and I have read it so many times since and have loved it just as much every time. If you have never read this poem, you can find it on Jessica's Blog, and I highly recommend following her on Instagram and Facebook and checking out all of her incredible work.

My Favorite Book

Love You Forever by Robert Munsch

I had this book and read it a million times growing up, but the first time I read it as a mom it hit different. As I pulled it off the shelf one afternoon, sat on the couch with my little guy in my arms, and started to read to him, I understood the real audience this book had been written for, parents! As I read, I found myself getting more and more choked up, and when my worried husband found me sitting on the couch sobbing, I tried to explain it was just because the book was so wonderful. This book shares the love between a mother and son as they grow older and move through the stages of their lives and as the title reads, I remember looking at my baby and knowing I would love him forever, and hoped that he would always feel the same way about me.

I highly encourage you to read this book if you are a parent and haven't yet, and one of the best parts is it comes as a board book so your baby can enjoy it as well! Checkout Amazon to buy the board book version now!
