Baby Friendly Pasta Sauce

Updated: Dec 19, 2023

This homemade pasta sauce is not only simple and quick, but is inexpensive to make and has a great flavor as well. This is one recipe I make in large batches and the whole family loves.

This week for baby led weaning, we introduced our little guy to the wheat allergy group, and luckily had no issues. We gave him avocado toast, and later that week, whole wheat pasta. What fun is pasta though without any sauce?! Unfortunately most sauces out there containe both salt and sugar, two things babies aren't suppose to have, especially early on, so I wanted an option that didn't include those things and was a healthy choice for our baby. And of course, it's dairy free. It also pairs great with our baby friendly meatball recipe.

Baby Friendly Pasta Sauce

Prep Time: 5 minutes, Bake Time: 20 minutes, Total Time: About 25 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 can organic, low sodium tomato paste

  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/2 tablespoon dried parsley

  • 1/2 tablespoon dried basil

  • 1/2 tablespoon dried oregano

  • 1/4 tablespoon pepper

Instructions:

  1. Pour your olive oil into a pot, and heat it over medium to low heat, enough to warm it up.

  2. Once warmed, add your minced garlic and gently sautee until you begin to smell it.

  3. Pour in your tomato paste, and mix. Then add all spices and mix again.

  4. Simmer over medium to low heat for about 20 minutes, not stirring to let the sauce thicken. Once thickend, mix again.

  5. Serve and enjoy over pasta, with english muffins as mini pizzas, or as a delicous dip.
