This week in our BLW journey we introduced tomatoes and I made a baby friendly spaghetti sauce, cooked with whole grain pasta, and wanted a little something extra to go with it.
When serving meatballs to your baby, cut them into halves for younger babies, and make sure meatballs are thoroughly cooked and in a sauce, so they aren't too dry. As babies get older they can have the whole meatball like the rest of the family.
Dairy Free Meatballs
Prep Time: 5 minutes, Bake Time: 10 minutes, Total Time: About 15 minutes
Ingredients:
1 lb ground turkey or beef
1/4 finely chopped onion
1/2 tablespoon dried parsley
1/2 tablespoon dried basil
1/2 tablespoon dried oregano
1/4 tablespoon garlic powder
1/4 tablespoon pepper
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup dairy free flour
Instructions:
Cut your onion into bite size pieces and place in a medium bowl.
Add remaining ingredients to the bowl, and mix everything together until flour is absorbed and onions stick to the meat.
Coat a pan with oil and turn on low heat. Roll meat into balls (I usually get 10-12 meatballs). Then place in pan and cover. Turn your heat up and cook, turning periodically to cook all sides.
Coat with a sauce of your choice, eat them plain, or mix them with your favorite pasta dish to enjoy.
Freezer Instructions:
If you're like me and looking to freeze your meal for later, follow the instructions below to do so. Or make a double batch and enjoy one for dinner, while still having one to save.
Follow steps 1-4 from the instructions above. Place in a sealed bag or container and freeze.
When ready to eat, take out of the freezer and thaw completely.
Then reheat in the microwave or over the stove.
Serve, and enjoy!
