Christmas Mocktails for Pregnant & Nursing Mamas: Dairy Free Options Included

Looking for some fun Christmas mocktails to celebrate with friends or family this holiday season? Well look no further. I have compiled a list of some of my favorite drinks along with some of the top holiday beverages to change it up a bit and add some excitement to the holidays while still taking care of you and your growing baby! And better yet, they are all dairy free, or include directions to make them dairy free. Come on Merry Mamas, give them a try. And if you're already a mama, your kids might enjoy the fun of trying these along with you.

Festive Water

I had to start with this one, but hear me out. Water should always be your go to during pregnancy, but why not spice it up a little with some fun holiday favorites that also add health benefits.

According to Health Insider, mint water has some amazing health benefits including healthy skin, digestive support, and blood sugar management, and who doesn't love mint during Christmas?! Pomegranate seeds, cranberries, orange slices, and berries are some other fun and festive options. Check out this piece of cake recipe for Flavored Ice Cubes from Have A Plant. Then add water to your favorite cocktail glass to really jazz things up, drop in your flavored ice cubes, and enjoy.

Hot Cocoa

Although we want to limit caffeine intake during pregnancy, pre packaged hot cocoa mixes contain very little caffeine compared to the homemade kind from cocoa beans and powder. According to the Swiss Miss box in my cabinet, one cup contains only 5 mg of caffeine, way less than a cup of coffee. So grab a pack, rip it open, and add some water or fat free pasteurized milk. Mix with a cinnamon stick or candy cane for a little extra flavor.

For a no milk option, checkout Courtney's Sweet's and enjoy this delicous Dairy Free Hot Chocolate with powdered sugar and cocoa powder.

Pink Pomegranate Sparkler

Pink sparkling lemonade makes this bubbly beverage a fun sweet treat. Add a dash of pomegranate juice, some pomegranate seeds to taste, then top it off with an evergreen sprig for your holiday flair. Head over to Advanced Mixology for this super simple recipe.

Santa's Hat Shirley Temple

Young and old alike love the Shirley Temple. This twist from blogger Tracey adds an extra splash of grenadine to the typical drink recipe to enhance the red color, as well as a fancy Santa inspired coconut rimmed glass to top off the drink. Find her inspiration behind this drink at her blog, The Kitchen is My Playground.

The Green Grinch

Although the Green Grasshopper, as commonly called, is typically enjoyed during St. Patty's celebrations, with a little name change, this cool green beverage can be enjoyed by Grinch fans alike this holiday season. This creamy mint chocolate cocktail is easy to make, and with a little work can be dairy free as well. Visit Food Meanderings for this delicious recipe. Add a red sprinkle rimmed glass to make this Grinchy drink even more pleasing. And for a dairy free option use the hot cocoa recipe above, and substitue your milk, half and half, and whip cream for any dairy free alternative such as soy, coconut, or almond milk and cream.

Warm Cranberry Punch

The previous drink might be chilled, but this hot option will keep you toasty all night long. This warm punch combines juices, spices, fruits, and sugar then combines them in a crock pot on hot for a few hours to really bring out that perfect flavor. If you love cranberry and want to cuddle up with something warm, this drink can be found at Deliciously Sprinkled and won't disappoint.

Holiday Mock Sangria

Sangria is often a holiday favorite but it is just as delicious alcohol free. Combine several juices, using juices from concentrate as they are pasteurized so safer for pregnancy. Then simply add the fruits of your choosing. Some low sugar pregnancy options include, peaches, berries, lemons, limes, and kiwis. Stick to red and green options to make it even more festive this season, then top with sparking water and ginger to taste. Dr. Taz shares her healthy recipe HERE.

Gingerbread Martini Mocktail

Last but certainly not least this cookie inspired treat is sure to leave you feeling refreshed. Gluten Free blogger Chandice describes it tasting just like the cookie, but much easier to make.

One may be the stopping point for this sweet treat though, as it does contain a lot of sugar and you want to keep your baby healthy and strong inside you. This one also needs a little tweaking to make it dairy free, but using these vegan gingersnaps, and coconut cream instead of heavy cream, this one is sure to please. Find the recipe at her page, This Vivacious Life.

With all these options keep in mind to not over do it. All recipes were chosen for pregnant mamas, but juices and fruits in general are often high in sugar and too much sugar isn't great for you or your baby.
